anchorlinera.org began as a personal habit of noticing bus shelters, corner stores and community rinks — and turned into a small, ongoing project to write them down properly.
How it started
The first entry was a bus shelter near a suburban Toronto strip mall — a place thousands of people pass through every week without a second glance. Writing about it properly, with time spent watching and listening, felt more honest than another piece about a landmark.
What began as a single note turned into a running list. A few friends with cameras and a habit of paying attention joined in, and anchorlinera.org grew into a small, informal archive of everyday Canadian places.
What we actually do
Field visits
We spend real time in a place before writing anything, often across several visits and different times of day.
Plain writing
Notes are written in plain language, describing what was actually seen and heard rather than dressing it up.
Careful photography
Photographs are taken with consent and shown as they are, without staging or heavy editing.
Open publishing
Every note is published for anyone to read, free of charge, with no advertising placed inside the writing itself.
